Abstract
Research publication trend in journal published by MARDI i.e. Journal of Tropical Agriculture and Food Science (JTAFS) for a period of 12 years (1997–2008) was studied. The study focussed on the content analysis of the main research disciplines and the main agriculture commodities published in the journal. In that period, JTAFS has published 24 issues with a total of 384 articles. On the average, JTAFS published 32 articles a year and 16 articles per issue. Crop sciences and food sciences are main research disciplines in MARDI and article contribution from these two dsiciplines was more than 25% (food sciences 28.6%, crop sciences 26.6%). Other research disciplines were 13.8% for resource studies, 9.4% animal sciences and 8.6% pests and beneficials, and biotechnology respectively. JTAFS published many articles from the fruit commodity (26%), paddy (14%), vegetables (11%) and herbs (8%). A big number of articles on fruits were published in the crop science discipline (44%) and food sciences (39%). For this commodity, papaya and pineapple were most written (18% respectively) compared to the other 18 fruit crops. Articles on herbs were first puhlished in 2000 and throughout the study period, 60% of articles were published in food sciences discipline. For the whole of articles on herbs, articles on Morinda citrifolia were on top of the list (23%).

 

Abstrak
Trend penerbitan penyelidikan yang diterbitkan dalam jurnal MARDI iaitu Journal of Tropical Agriculture and Food Science (JTAFS) bagi tempoh 12 tahun (1997–2008) telah dikaji. Kajian ditumpukan kepada analisis kandungan terutamanya dalam bidang penyelidikan utama dan komoditi pertanian utama yang diterbitkan dalam jurnal ini. Sepanjang tempoh ini, JTAFS telah menerbitkan 24 isu dengan jumlah artikel sebanyak 384. Secara purata, JTAFS
menerbitkan 32 artikel setahun dengan 16 artikel bagi setiap isu. Kajian mendapati sumbangan artikel daripada bidang sains makanan dan sains tanaman melebihi 25% (sains makanan 28.6%, sains tanaman 26.6%). Bidang-bidang lain pula ialah 13.8% bagi kajian sumber, 9.4% sains penternakan dan 8.6% masing-masing bagi perosak dan pemfaedah, serta bioteknologi. JTAFS banyak menerbitkan artikel daripada komoditi buah-buahan (26%), padi (14%), sayur-sayuran (11%) dan herba (8%). Sebilangan besar artikel tentang buah-buahan diterbitkan dalam bidang sains tanaman (44%) dan sains makanan (39%). Bagi komoditi ini, betik dan nanas paling banyak ditulis (masing-masing 18%) dibandingkan dengan 18 jenis buah-buahan lain. Artikel mengenai herba mula diterbitkan pada tahun 2000 dan dalam tempoh kajian, 60% artikel yang diterbitkan adalah dalam bidang sains makanan. Bagi keseluruhan tanaman herba, artikel mengenai mengkudu di senarai tertinggi (23%).
