Tanda aras teknologi industri pemprosesan sarang burung walit
(Technology benchmarking on processing plant of edible bird nest industry in Malaysia)

Abstrak

Kajian tanda aras industri pemprosesan sarang burung walit ini dijalankan bagi menilai status kedudukan sembilan parameter teknologi pemprosesan sarang burung walit mentah. Parameter ini dipilih berasaskan piawaian pemprosesan sarang burung walit yang dibangunkan oleh Jabatan Perkhidmatan Veterinar. Sebanyak 42 pengusaha loji pemproses sarang burung walit telah dilawati di seluruh Semenanjung Malaysia. Hasil kajian mendapati 15 (35.7%) loji yang beroperasi mempunyai aras teknologi yang tinggi, manakala 17 (40.5%) buah loji beroperasi pada aras teknologi pemprosesan di peringkat sederhana tinggi dan 10 (20.8%) loji pemprosesan beroperasi di tahap aras teknologi rendah. Kajian mendapati dua aspek penting untuk memperkukuhkan daya saing eksport sarang burung walit negara adalah teknologi pematuhan piawaian akreditasi yang berada pada aras 0.34 dan pembungkusan berada pada aras 0.41 yang mana kedua-dua aras teknologi perlu diberi perhatian untuk membina sebuah industri yang mantap dan mampu bersaing di pasaran global.

Abstract

The study on benchmarking of burung walit processing industry aimed to evaluate the nine processing parameters involved. These parameters were based on processing standard of edible bird nest developed by the Department of Veterinary Services. A total of 42 edible bird nest processing plants were investigated in Peninsular Malaysia. The study found that 15 (35.5%) of processing plants operated at the high level technology level, 17 (40.5%) processing plants operated at medium level of technology index and 10 (20.8%) plants operated at the low level of technology index. The study indicates that the level of technology for accreditation is at 0.34 and packaging is at 0.41. Both are important factors to enhance Malaysian competitive position in the global market for edible bird industry. Thus the government should intensifying efforts to support Malaysian processing plants to strengthen these technology factors.
