Abstract
The use of the sweetpotato cultivation practice manual package (PMPK) recommended by MARDI is intended to help farmers increase their farm production by using the correct technique. A total of 62 respondents of VitAto sweetpotato growers were interviewed using random sampling to assess the impact of PMPK practice and the response to advice programme (KM) given by MARDI. The study showed that majority (63%) of farmers who practised PMPK at high level were also the recipients of MARDI advice and guidance (83%). This group of farmers earned more than 28 tonnes of farm yields per season, while the other group of farmers (37%) who practised PMPK at a moderate and low level obtained lower farm yield. The study showed that farm yield can be increased if farmers adopt the PMPK techniques at a high level as recommended by MARDI. Therefore, to increase the understanding and awareness of farmers, the KM programme has to be improved through understanding technique, dissemination of information materials, training and guidance.
